Hashtags are an excellent tool to grow your client base and increase engagement across social media. That being said, it’s important to understand what a hashtag is, how they work and when to use them. Below are 5 answers to common questions about hashtags.

A: Correctly used hashtags drastically increase your overall reach and help connect you with people who may have otherwise never seen your post. In fact, a post with at least one hashtag averages 12.6% more engagement than posts without a hashtag.
A: While there is no limit to the number of hashtags you can use, it’s important to find an adequate balance. A study conducted by Buffer found that using one to two hashtags on Twitter can give you 2 times the engagement. However, once you exceed that, average engagement drops 17%. Similarly, Hootsuite recommends using no more than 5 hashtags per post on LinkedIn.
